When we were asked to design and make a large 4 tier cake and cupcakes to celebrate a 1st birthday, we didn’t envisage that the recipient was the Denim Department of Selfridges!
It was decided that the motifs of one of Selfridges top designers (Ashley Williams) would be the inspiration for the creation as she would be launching her capsule denim collection at the party.
When we are asked to come up with a design for corporate cakes, we run through all the details of the event with the client. We want to understand the desired effect whether it be visual impact, replication of a logo or brand and what would be the perfect outcome for the cake.
In this instance we came up with a sketch which the client signed off featuring three Ashley Williams signature motifs, representation of cow print (as it is a kid’s Cowboy themed party) and a pair of Ashley Williams jeans with her leather belt which are amazing by the way!
And this is the finished result-we love it!
Having a cake as part of an event whether it be a product launch, corporate party or brand anniversary is a fantastic way of ensuring the event gets maximum social media exposure. People love cake and get very Twitter and Instagram happy which is fantastic for wider brand promotion. When Selfridges put this cake on Instagram, it got over 2000 likes. We were pretty happy with that!
And the creme de la creme is that the event and our cake was featured on Vogue.co.uk. Happy days!
